Default Mac Word - replace within selected text only.

I want "Search & Replace All" to ONLY APPLY to my selected text. Word currently tries to apply to to the entire document. In Word 2002 it would initially confine itelf to the selected text only, then ask if you wanted to extend the S&R action.
Is this an "innovation" of Word 2011 or of MacOffice. Either way you should be able to control the area/selection in which a search and/or search & replace will operate. Any advice on limiting the S&R function to a text selection would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob
