Are you saying that you can't select Word Document in the Save As dialog box (that the option is missing)? Try repairing your Office installation from Control Panel.
Alternatively, if you are saying that RTF is the default when you Save As, note that you can change this as follows: Click the Office button, and then click Word Options. In the Save category, make sure that "Save files in this format" is set to "Word Document (*.docx)." Click OK.

I forgot to mention : when i installed msoffice its showing "Microsoft Office XP Professional with front page" i also checked during installtion for save options but none noticed. Actually i did not find the office button itself on the left top of document . the view itself is different from normal ms word.attached is the docment view and sample save options. please help me. |

It seems as if you are using Word 2002. In that version you can set the default save format in Tools | Options, Save tab.
To repair Word 2002, you can use the command on the Help menu (Detect and Repair).
