Default Table of contents with multiple coloured headings

Hi, I have a document that has some different coloured headings in it. I want those colours to reflect in the TOC, I have the font colour set to automatic, but in the TOC, they always come out black. Does anyone know how to do this?

Default TOC work around

I got the same result as you.

However, one option would be to have custom styles for your headings, which as you have coloured them I assume you have done. When creating the TOC use your custom heading instead.

You might need to modify your custom headings to include a tab setting for the page number and a ..... leader and apply those styles to the created TOC. I tried this and it works just fine for me, but the headings I had in the document were left aligned and did not have a tab. Copy your document and try it in the copy, that way you still have your original to go back to.

It's worth a go a least as a work around until someone gives you the definitive solution for this.

This is by design. Only direct font formatting (that is, font formatting not in style) applied to heading text will be reflected in the table of contents.

However, if you want all entries at a particular level to have a specific color, modify the corresponding TOC style to include that color. For example, add blue to the TOC 2 style if you want all level 2 entries in the TOC to be blue.

I followed Stefan's advice and replicated this, works perfectly for me. That's why people like Stefan are on here, one for the "memory bank". As this is isolated to the document or template at least you don't have to worry about it changing everything in your normal template - unless it's all save it the normal template (not a good idea).
