web tool bar!!

in word the web toolbar keeps appearing automatically... I switch it off and 5 minutes later it re appears... How can I turn this annoying thing off permanently???

In Word, press Alt+F11 to display the Visual Basic Editor. On the View menu, click Project Explorer. In the Project Explorer window, click the folder labeled Normal. On the Insert menu, click Module. Double-click the Module1 that Word just created. Paste in the first macro in the article. Click Debug | Compile Normal. Then click the Save button. Close the Visual Basic Editor. Do the following to run the macro: Press Alt+F8. Click the macro name in the list of macros and click Run. That should hide the toolbar. If it still doesn't work, add the second macro (named AutoExec) in the same manner.

hello again Stefan and thank you again for your assistance.... I was able to get as far as the item "Paste in the first macro in the article" up to that point all was going well, but I couldn't figure out what the first macro is or what the article is to paste it in...
Also, I have been using the "web layout" view in word because I just like the way it fits the screen for most of the work I'm doing - would that be why the web toolbar keeps appearing? I want the web layout view, but do NOT want that darn toolbar there all the time!
Any further suggestions appreciated...

The first macro is the first "sub" in the article I linked to:

The Web toolbar was designed for the Web view, that is correct. Running the macro once should turn it off permanently though (for all views). For installation instructions, you can take a look at http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm.

aaaahhhhh!!! it's back! the macro makes it go away, but then out of the blue it reinserts itself... is there a way to make it stay off until such time as I deliberately select it from the menu? it keeps turning itself on automatically... sorry to be a pest!

When does it return? When you switch to Web Layout view or at any time?

I have quite a number of documents that are ongoing projects in word, all of which I have set to "web layout" on the view menu. I open and close these documents on a regular basis and whenever I see the web tool bar I switch it off, but it just keeps switching itself back on without me making any changes at all. It is particularly annoying because I have certain documents with graphs which I've laid out to fill the page and when the web toolbar appears it forces part of the graph off the page....

So I switch it off, and then a while later, it's back!
Initially I thought the macro you gave me worked, but lo and behold, the next day the web toolbar was back....

You could try using an AutoOpen macro as follows:

Call BanishWebToolbar
End Sub

Store this macro in the Normal template along with your original macro. (If such a macro already exists in the Normal template, simply add the line Call BanishWebToolbar.)

I apologize for the delay in response, I wanted to wait a while to be sure the darn thing doesn't come back - like a virus! Well I am pleased to report that it appears to be gone now and has not come back - not yet anyway and hopefully not at all!
