Default Curious about using Word for professional book editing

I've recently started editing books at home as a sort of hobby--taking raw text and formatting it for Book Fold printing in Word. It's a lot of "eyeball" work to make sure text is spaced correctly, text is properly hyphenated where needed. The use of Styles is invaluable to make sure everything is uniform. I'm curious if this is how professional book editors work or if most processes are automated by Word or some other high-end software.

Hi
Whilst MS Word is perfectly able to do this I would suggest that another product such as Framemaker or Publisher is better suited to this type of work. There are probably many other applications dedicated to this sort of work but these are just two examples.
Good luck.

I've been so focused on Word that I didn't think about installing Publisher to see what it can do. Sticking with the MS suite should make it easier to learn. Thanks!
