Default Character Spacing options (read: can Word do this?)

I don't know if Word can do this, but I'll ask.

I use full justification on all my texts without auto-hyphenation. Often, to satisfy both settings, spacing between the words will be much wider than normal and it's very distracting. For now, I have to "eyeball" the whole document and use Spacing Options>Condensed to fix these trouble spots. It usually only takes a 0.1pt to normalize the spacing. Saving it as a Style speeds up the process, but it's time consuming.

Is there a way to find lines where the text is automatically expanded to fit full justification, based on a definable threshold? For example: "Find lines where the spacing between words is >/= 1.5pt."

Full justification will look better if you enable the compatibility option "Do full justification the way WordPerfect 6.x for Windows does" (in Tools | Options, Compatibility).

In Word 2010, I can save a document as a .doc compatible with Word 97-2003, but I don't understand what you mean about enabling compatibility. Do you mean to save the document as a .doc that's compatible with earlier versions of Word?
