Hi Jim,
The compatability mode is set via Word Options|Save, where you can choose the default save format. choosing the 'Word 97-2003 document (.doc)' format puts Word 2007 & later into the compatability mode. In Word 2010, you can check for compatability issues via File|Info|Prepare for Sharing.
