Can Word automatically update footnotes?
How can I create footnotes in Word? Right now all I'm doing is adding a superscripted number in the text as a reference to a footnote, and on the last page of my document spelling out the footnote. But I'm wondering if there's a way of getting Word to recognize this as a footnote. That way, I can do things like insert an extra footnote mid-way through the document and have Word automatically update all footnotes that follow (for example, if I add a footnote between footnotes 3 and 4, it would automatically update footnote 4 to footnote 5, footnote 5 to footnote 6, and so on to the end of the document).

'Insert Footnote' is on the References tab.
