Question How to select all paragraphs that belongs to certain "Style" but doesn't take its for

How to select all paragraphs that belongs to certain "Style" but doesn't take its format?

please, see the attached image that shows my question

this is very confusing, since we may have paragraphs that belong to certain styles but their format is different!!!!!!!!

in the image, one of the paragraphs belong to the Normal Style but at the same time, this paragraph doesn't follow the format of the Normal style!!!!

then, i need to select all the paragraphs that belongs to the normal style while its format is different from what it is specified in the normal style.

how to make this selection?

regards

Jamal

Jamal: I'm afraid that is not possible. You can, however, select each instance of the modified normal style. Press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S to display the styles window. Under Options, select "In current document" in the Styles to show dropdown. Select Alphabetical in how list is sorted. Check mark in the first 4 check boxes (not the last). Put your cursor in the paragraph in question. Scroll the Styles list until you see a boxed Style Name. It may be something like "1. Numbered, 14 pt. Bold." In other words, the style name will be a description of the manually applied formatting. Every time you manually apply formatting charactistics, Word creates another new style name. Don't do that. Edit the style formatting from the Styles window instead.
Click the dropdown on the style name and "Select All instances." Repeat for each of the manually applied styles.

thank you for the answer Ornthorpe.

actually, i couldn't exactly understand how does the "Styles" behave!

Sure, some times, another style is created automatically once any change occurs and these changes are added to the name of the style BUT in other cases these changes takes another separate name!!!!!!

please, see the attached images

how to include these changes (italic, subscript, ...) in the same style?

regards

Jamal

Jamal: Yes, I see you have a real mess. The easiest way to fix what you have would be to look at the styles list to see which one is the most populous. In other words, which of the 'manufactured' styles occurs most often in your document in the kind of text in question (not the italics text). Rename the style to something like Body Main. Then select all the text you want to look like that text and apply Body Main to it. Then they will all look alike. Word creates 2 different kinds of styles: character styles and paragraph styles. Look in the styles list to see one called Strong. The Strong style is a character style - meaning that the style attributes are only applied to selected text, not to the entire paragraph. You can create a new character style just to add italics to your text.
Once you have created a style or renamed or modified an existing style in the list, then you can modify its properties to include whatever you like and the text in your document will assume those characteristics immediately.

Than you Ornthorpe for the answer. I'll try it as you have advised.

Default Reset formatting...

There are several ways that you can reset formatting. You can get rid of direct paragraph formatting (that is, paragraph formatting not in style) by selecting all the text and pressing Ctrl+Q. Similarly, you can get rid of direct font formatting in the selection by pressing Ctrl+SpaceBar.

Alternatively, you can use the Find and Replace dialog (Ctrl+H) to search for a paragraph style and replace it with itself; this will reapply the style, which also clears direct formatting from the paragraphs using that style.
