Default Changing Cross Reference Text

Hi,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out; I've Googled a lot and can't find an answer to what I think may be a simple question.

What I would like to be able to do is change the text displayed when cross-referencing. For example I have a section title (say a Heading 1 or similar) with the text "The Routing Information Protocol". However I would like to be able to reference it elsewhere in the document as "Routing Information Protocol", "RIP" or simply "here" (as in 'see here').

However I just cannot see how this can be done. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Dave
