Default How do I get a summary sentence for each paragraph shown in outline view

Hi there,

I am currently using word to put together a large document (my PhD thesis). In order to assist me in seeing the structure of my document I'd like to have a 1-line explanation of each paragraph so that I could go to outline view and see an abridged version of any particular section of my thesis.

Thus far I have simply used section headers for each sentence, however when this is printed I'd ideally like the option of "hiding" those section headers so that I don't have to manually go through and delete each one.

My questions are:

1) Is there a better way to have a summary sentence for each paragraph shown in outline view that doesn't use section headers - and can be hidden on demand?
2) If not, then is there a way to "hide" section headers of a particular format in a document when printing?

Many thanks,
J

Default Section headers

I am guessing that by 'section headers' you are referring to heading styles. Are you familiar with styles, as opposed to simply formatting? You can assign a style to text, adn then use Replace to hide it, by selecting the Style from the Format drop-down at the bottom of the Find and Replace dialogue, then, for replace, selecting Font and checking Hidden.
See the attached document.

If the style you select for your synopses is a heading style, it will show up in the outline for reference purposes. Later, you can hide it or unhide it as you choose.

Best,
Ulodesk
