Default Multilevel numbering Office 2010

I am having trouble with multilevel numbering. I have defined the multilevel numbering sytem. The document had a numbersing system and I have cleared formatting of the document. And then highlighted the document and selected the multi-level numbersing sytem. The numbering is all over the place. I have to change every paragraph for the left index value. I want to set up hanging. The lines are coming either none or first line.

I have manually cleaned up a part of the attached file. I hope one can help me on this for automatic numbering system.

Hi

See first page of the attached document for customised multi-level numbering as I think you want it to display. I notice in some sections that they do not have the same levels so I am assuming this is an error.
Hope this helps.
Use the "format painter" button to format for paragraphs to the correct level.

Good luck.

Yes, that is what I like to do. Unfortunately it is not seamless. There is no guarantee the next level will be the correct one. If I delete and enter - the levels comes with accept and or reject sign. I have to make the change whole document even though i have the document "Clear formatting"

Multilevel will not allow hanging as default. When I defined the multilevel I set up the left indent and Text indent. My understanding is that the hanging indent. Every level comes with either "None" or "First line". I have to change every paragraph for "Hanging"

I had Word 2003 before the upgrade. I did not have similar problem. I am just wondering is this a Software glitch or there is way to set this hanging other than working on each level?

Hi
I have re-created the styles named Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5.
When assigning the styles to a paragraph you will have to place your cursor in the paragraph and then click on the the style name in the toolbar. It appears you cannot just use the indent, outdent buttons any more, why I do not know.

Hope this helps.

I am new with 2010 version. There are so many changes that I am not familiar with. I was not sure about the styles on the top. I saw in your document the style with multilevel numbering. I was not using that. May be that was my problem.
I will try this.
Thanks for your time.

Hi
If you have any further troubles please come back to the Forum and we will try and help you further.
Office 2010 is vastly different in layout from versions pre 2007 so don't struggle, just ask.

Since you have suggested to ask - in 2003 I can add symbols like Degree sign electrical phase sign or check mark. How do I do with 2010?

Hi
For the degree sign you can enter a small "o" after the number and then highlight the "o" and then apply the superscript option by right clicking on the highlighted "o" and select Font followed by Superscript.

For other Symbols, in your Word document click on the "Insert" menu and on the right hand side of the toolbar you will see a "Symbol" button, press that and you will see a list of symbols you can use.

Good luck.

Here is one "Φ". I have cut and paste from Wikepedia. Now my Font is changed when I paste the symbol. The question is why there is no option for symbols? I can add check mark from the Bullets.
