Default Pagination problems

I'm working on a book using MS Word 2007, in Vista, and need to begin pagination with the 10th page. The previous pages shoudn't have page numbers and all pages from the 10th on should be numbered sequentially starting with "1". I've followed the "Help" directions very carefully but once I erase the page numbers in the previous section, then I can't get any page numbers in the second section, beyond page "1", to display.

In other words, either the page numbers in both sections are displayed (both beginning with "1") or, if I delete the numbers in the first section, then all I see in the second section is a "1" for the first page of that section, but no numbers are displayed for the remaining pages. This has me pulling my hair out, folks.

Anyone else ever have this problem. Help would really be appreciated since I'm preparing this text for publication and it has to look right.
