Default character spacing position disabled

I use the character spacing/position settings to line up an inline graphic with the text surrounding it, such as a small icon in front of a header. But when I go to Format Font, and click on the Character Spacing tab and look at the Position option, it is grayed out. When I click on it anyway, I get an error message that says:

"This feature is disabled because it is not compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.0."

But this is a print document.... so why would it need to be compatible with browsers?

Someone else provided me with these documents. Is it possible there's some hidden html in there that makes Word think that it's a web page, even though it's saved as a .doc?

Using the superscript/subscript format is not what I need and doesn't work the way I need it to.

Thanks

Default Hidden HTML

I think it is possible; I once encountered a bit of HTML text in a Word document. It had been copied adn pasted from a Web page in such a way that it retained it.

I would check your Styles. Try selecting a relevant paragraph, clearing both paragraph and character styles (Alt+Q, Alt +Spacebar), then re-applying the correct style. See if that does the trick.

Best,
Ulodesk
