Advanced page numbering

Hello I need to add some page numbering for my paper.



I want the first few pages to be in roman numerals and then later on I want them to change to regular numbers starting at the number 1. Furthermore I want the page numbering to be absent on the first page.

I do not know how to achieve this though... i am having a very difficult time.

exmaple

i, ii, iii, 1, 2, 3, 4, .. etc.
