Default Page break - next page

Good Morning Forum!

I'm using Office 2003 since a long time and never faced that problem yet. Now that I started using a new system I had to "import" my Word settings from my former installation. I could fix everything but this:

I had set page break with control - enter (I think that's the default anyway). That used to function properly. Now all of a sudden the situation is like this:

I insert a page break and start the new section with header 1. When I go up with the cursor the line above this new header 1 on the last page where the page break is is also formatted with header 1. The problem starts when I want to either use a TOC or hyperlink to jump to this header 1 because then it jumps to the line above which is blank but formatted with header 1 and at the end of the last page before the desired header 1.

Whilst searching and investigating I found out that the thing works properly when I use the following procedure:

Insert - Break - Next page.

Now I would like to know how that can be set as a key command like page break is set with control - enter. I cannot find Next page in the offered commands list.

I would really appreciate help. Thanks already in advance.

Commodore

Hi, Commodore. The Break - Next Page is different from a page break; it is a section break. This is something you can look up, but in brief, sections allow separate formatting of otherwise document-wide features. In the case of Next Page section breaks, this allows setting different margins, page orientation, etc. In any case, with respect to hyperlinked TOCs, this is the means to avoid the problem, as you discovered. In any case, there is a keyboard shortcut for this section break, which I don't recall but you can figure out from your menus. I beleive it's on the Insert menu, which is Alt+I, plus whatever letter is underlined for Next Page break.

Best,
Philip

Hi Philip! Thanx so much for your detailled information that really helped me. I even found the right settings now: It is InsertSectionBreak. And that works just as Next Page, seems to be the same. I wonder that it got a different name though. Anyway, I changed out the key commands for both, and now Section Break alias Next Page works with the regular Control - Enter key kombination. Might as well I had set that in my old system long, long time ago and did not remember it any more, but it always worked until I got the new system ;-)

Greetings and 1000 thanks!!!!!!!!

Commodore

Hi Commodore,

Section breaks are quite different from page breaks. Among other things, with Section breaks you can change the page layout (eg margins and orientation), neither of which you can do with a page break.

All right, I guess I will have to dedicate myself to that issue I never did because it always worked properly as it does now again. Still you raised that fever in me to investigate more.

I wonder how to create this solved stamp. I can only mark solved in a new topic form. So I just wrote solved in the title line. Sorry .

The solved stamp is in the "Thread Tools" at the top of the page, I think.

Don't worry - I've done it. It seems your web browser isn't showing the 'Thread Tools', etc options.
