please, see the attached images that show my question

why when deleting the "section break-continuous" switches the former "section break-next page" to "section break-continuous"?

It's really dumb, but you have to insert a "Break - Next Page" after the "Break - Continuous" that you want to delete. Then, delete the "Break - Continuous" and it will turn into a "Break - Next Page"... now delete it too! Your original "Break - Next Page" should have stayed the same.

You have to do it in exactly this order and I never understood why, but I've run into the same problem before and remember the solution! Let me know if that works.

Thank you aero_b. it worked like a charm.

i don't know how the user could know that on his/her own!!! what is the assumption of Microsoft?

I have no idea!

It probably has to do with the fact that deleting a Section Break makes the preceding section take on the formatting of the subsequent section (which I find counter-intuitive) and the type of break is considered a format property of the section.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks aero_b and Jamal.

I had exactly the opposite problem: I wanted to get rid of a page break but retain a section break. The same technique worked to solve it.

MS must be aware of this bizarre functionality. Why on earth don't they fix it?

To learn about section breaks in Word, see http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...thSections.htm.
