Formatting changing randomly
Hello there, new to the forums.
I've tried searching around through threads in the past but have not found anything on this issue. My company tried to convert to Office 2007 last year, but was having major issues with some reports. Currently they are using Office 2003. Basically the way these reprots are created is by having a template report and then information from other word documents is pasted into the file. Other things such as Excel charts and things from pdfs are put into the file as well. The problem they had with 2007 is that they would be working on a report, it will be fine for a few days, then one day they will open the file and the format will be all over the place. Random chunks of text will be in bold or italic and in different fonts. I started working at the company 4 months ago, but I am told that they have word files that are converted from older word versions and word perfect. We want to convert to Office 2010, but this issue is scaring off some management. Anyone have any thoughts or solutions on what can be the issue? Thank you! |

Hi Franuzz,
First off, it sounds as if the company isn't making much use of Office's automation abilities. As for the formatting problem, documents converted from WordPerfect have always been problematic and these need to be checked carefully. Also, the converted document will likely still have embedded in it a lot of unnecessary field codes from the conversion that can/should be deleted. For content copied & pasted entirely between Word documents, the likely source of the problem is the improper use of Word paragraph and/or character Styles.
