Setting a Keyboard Shortcut for Advanced Search
Just upgraded to Word 2010 and cannot program <Control>+F to go to Advanced Find not just regular "Find." When I go to record the macro, all I know to do is either hit the binocs in my ribbon or choose it from the drop-down menu in the editing box. Either way, it doesn't "take." Does anybody know how I can do this? That is the one macro that I use CONSTANTLY in my job as a copyeditor!
Thanks! Suzanne P.S. I have already been through the bug with the normal.dot not saving on exit and have been force saving it. If anybody needs to know how to do that, let me know! |

Hi Suzanne,
In Word 2010, Ctrl-H defaults to the conventional 'Find' option. I don't understand your reference to 'normal.dot not saving on exit'.

Control H goes to the replace tab in the "Find and Replace" dialog. I'm looking to go to the first tab, "Find." That is the command called "Advanced Find" in the list of all commands. Like I said, I've tried pressing the binoculars on my ribbon and choosing it from the drop-down menu while I'm in the macro record mode, but neither works. As to the normal.dot problem, it has to do with the Acrobat toolbar loaded into Word 2010. Here are a couple of sites talking about it: Geek explanation/language: http://thedailyreviewer.com/windowsa...ving-105180761 which jumps to: http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adob...at_toolbar.htm Regular human language: http://www.softwarepro.com/howto/wrd...references.htm Thanks! RE: Setting a Keyboard Shortcut for Advanced Search
Hi SuzW
I've also had the same problem but resolved it by reassigning the keyboard shortcut. There are a few ways to get to that point. One is File > Options > Customize Ribbon, then press the Customize button for keyboard shortcuts. Choose the Home Tab from the categories and EditFind in the commands list. Press Ctrl+F and click on the Assign button, making sure you are saving changes in the Normal template, if that's what you want. You can now close that window and the one below (Word Options). By the way, I've also found a quicker way of getting to the Customize Keyboard window by adding a button to the Quick Access Toolbar. To do this you go to File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar and then select All Commands at the top right and Customize Keyboard ... in the list below. Press the Add button, aligning it wherever you want. Then press OK and you'll find a green circle on your Quick Access Toolbar, which takes you directly to theCutomize Keyboard window. |

No problems
No problems, SuzW. The only slight glitch I find with this is that it defaults to searching down rather than all. I've posted a separate message to see if anybody can resolve this: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word/...earch-all.html.

All options available in the Advanced Find dialog are available in the Replace dialog, it just has extra boxes. You can get just the Find dialog by pressing Alt+D when in the Replace Dialog but there is nothing you can do in that dialog that you can't do, the same way, in the Replace dialog.
