Default Change style of 'open file' window?

Win7 + office '07

I have the OS file explorer set to the legacy style. However, the window that opens when saving or opening a file (at least) within Word has an annoying preview pane in the right half that I can only slide the vertical slidebar so far to the right to minimize and cannot see how to rid the thing of the preview in its entirety?

Mark

P.S. Turns out the preview deal is not an Office feature but somehow gets turned on by certain applications/actions. There was an icon starring at me all the while that turns the preview on and off. Sorry for the bother--
