This is really bizarre and have never encountered this before. I'm working with Word 2007 and all of my numbers are automatically advancing by one digit. I'll try to explain. I have document using the following numbering style:
1. Heading 1 1.1. Heading 2 1.2. Heading 2 etc. But when I add a subhead to my heading 1, I get the following result: 1. Heading 1 2.1 Heading 2 2.2 Heading 2 and so on ... I'm sure some of you have come across this before and don't consider that too strange, but here's the kicker. It also happens with numbered lists. The lists always start with number 2. I've tried a few things, like with the numbered list, tried the Restart numbering at 1, but that doesn't do anything. I have a work around which may give you a clue to what might be going on. After I apply my header 2 style, I go back to the end of my header 1 line and hit ENTER On that line I type in the header 2 text and apply Header 2 style again and the numbering is correct. Now the original Header 2 with the one digit advanced is still there, it doesn't change the numbering on that one. This has me really puzzled and if anyone can offer insight, it'd be much appreciated. Last edited by rbilleaud; 06-28-2011 at 01:13 PM. Reason: more info added. |

Hi rbilleaud,
How are you adding your 'subhead'?

Huh? Oh, just to be clear, don't want to go misusing terminology. When I say subhead, I mean "Heading 2", and I add it in various ways. I might paste it in from another doc, or type it in new, but in all cases, after I add the text I apply the "Heading 2" style, and as I explained, the numbering is off. Sorry if I was unclear. It's always easier if you can show someone what's happening rather than trying to describe it.
