Default Drop Down List using SYMBOLS

I’m creating a form in MS Word 7, and want to incorporate a drop down menu with a “check” (windings þ”254”) and “uncheck” (windings ¨"168”) feature. This document will be used on a computer and the user should have the capability of selecting either the "checked box" or the "unchecked box".
I selected the "Developer" tab; under “Controls”, I selected the “Drop-Down List”, I want to add two symbols, one of a checked box and the other of an unchecked. I see instructions to add words but not instructions to add symbols.
If there is another option to have have a form with a drop down menu in MS Word 7, please let me know.

Hi sm5948,

For the text, hold don the Alt key while typing 0254 and 0168, respectively, on the numeric keypad. Format the content control with the Wingdings font.
