Default Two pictures in one figure?

I'm writing a report for which I'd like to combine two separate graphic files into one figure. Is it possible to combine them in MS Word so that when I add captions to all my figures, the captions don't skip a number (since two pictures would be sharing a single caption, as they are one figure).
