Default Re-installation of MS Office for Home and students

Hi,
I recently bought an iMac 11.3 and have installed ‘MS Office 2011 Home and Student”. I now notice that all my Word, Excel and PhotoShop files have vanished. I suspect due to faulty installation of Mac Office. I would like to reinstall it. But first I must uninstall it.

Article ID 2398768 Rev’d 30.0 (Microsoft.support) tells me how. There are 11 steps. Step 3 tells me to open LaunchDaemons folder and trash com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper.plist file. I must also open PrivilegedHelperTools folder and trash com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper. I cannot find these folders and files. Nor can I find in step 4 com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist in the Preferences folder. There are no problems with the remaining 9 steps.

I think that since these MS files are missing I can SAFELY go ahead and reinstall MS Office 2011. If not, I will surely and greatly appreciate your views.

Thanks.
PS. I do have DVD backup of all my files.

Hi Roshan,

The uninstallation or reinstallation of a program should not affect any data files. If they're gone, some other process is most likely rsponsible. Of course, if you're expecting the files you created with Office etc to appear on a new PC/Mac all by themselves, that's not going to happen. After all, they would never have been on the installation media - so you'll need to restore them from your backups.
