Does Word have an "Events log?
I am attempting to work out where I last worked on a document I have not opened for many months without much success. I know that if a document is live it is possible to use the edit function to go back over the last changes made to that document but is it possible to do what I would like to do witha document that has been dormant?

If you open the document and press Shift-F5, Word should be able to take you back to the last saved edit location. Of course, if you've opened the document without doing that, then saved it, last edit location may now be wherever the cursor was when you saved.
