Default Word template containing macro + hotkeys

Is it possible to have a template including all styles, quick parts, macros with hotkeys assigned attached to the current document? of course it is possible to change the normal.dot the way I like, but then once I make a change to it (which happens a lot) I have to make a backup and then update Normal.dot in other computers I am working with. I want to have a template on my external drive and then attach in to whatever document I want and it makes me able to have all styles, quick parts, macros+hotkey available in the current document without changing anything on the host computer. In this way even if I change the template, since I am using it directly from my external hard drive, it gets updated automatically.

Is it possible? I tried actually, when I attach the template to the active document, the macros + hotkeys are working, but styles of the template are not yet visible to the active documents.

Hi b0x4it,

If you attach a template, all of its content - Styles included - should be available to the document.

This is what I do:
1. open a new doc
2. developer tab->document template
3. add my template to "global templates and add-ins"
4. ok then nothing happens

but when I go to developer tab->document template and then instead of normal.dot select mine, it works. but is there any way to have couple of templates attached to a doc?
the other problem is that when I attach my template instead of normal.dot, the current doc possess all the styles. is this logical? I think the doc should keep just those styles that have been used and not just all of the styles from the attached template. what do u think?

Hi b0x4it,

Developer|Document Templates > Template > (Template name) > Attach.
