Is there any way to ask word to shade the equations just like shading fields by setting the Field shading option to Always? If no, what about using VBA?

You can apply ordinary paragraph shading, but you'd probably want to set the left & right indents to a value that closely reflects the equation's width.

Does it then show up in printing? Is there any way to shade them just inside the Word without affecting the print output, just like what field shading does.

Yes, that would show in printing. AFAIK there is nothing equivelent to non-printing field shading for equations.

A simpler shading method might be to apply grey highlighting to the equations. That would avoid the need to play with paragraph indents and you could easily do a Find/Replace to clear all highlighting before printing.
