Default Tracing Inserts

I m using Word from Office 2010 Professional Plus.
Is there any way of tracing where inserted figures originated.
I have various sources of figures and artwork that I want to insert in a Word document, eg Painshop, Photoshop, Serif DRawPlus. When I've inserted them and review the document later I'd like to be able to hover over a figure and read where its source is kept.
Can I do this preferably within Word but Clip Organiser is available.
Thanks
DonH

Hi Don,

Unless you insert the objects as linked objects, Word provides no way of tracing them back to their source.

By linked objects, do you mean Copy and Paste?
If I've done that how do I read their original location from the whole document?
Thanks

Hi Don,

I mean as in:
• Insert|Picture with the 'Link to File' option chosen, instead of 'Insert'; or
• Paste|Paste Special with the 'Paste Link' option chosen.

Thanks
Found it. Now know where "Link to File" is.
However, in my Word Document I still cannot see where the inserted picture came from.
Should I be able to see it somewhere?

Hi Don,

Unless you inserted the picture using that method, there would be no way of finding its origin.

Using that method does not seem to record where it came from or am I missing something?

Hi Don,

To see where the image came from, you can go to Office Button|Prepare|Edit Links to Files (or use Alt-E, k). Alternatively, if you save the file in the older 97-2003 doc format, you can select an in-line picture and press Shift-F9.

I'm using Office 2010 (14.0). It doesn't have Button. It does have Ribbon I found the following Options>Customise the Ribbon>Choose Commands> Edit Links to Files moved into new Custom Group. I felt pleased with myself at having found how to make it available.
However my joy was shortlived. I highlighted a diagram I'd imported only to find that Edit Links to Files was greyed out.
I tried Alt-E, k and Shift-F9. None worked. I guess I'll have to use pencil and paper to make a note where the figures came from.
Thanks for trying

Hi Don,

If Edit|Links was greyed out, that suggests you didn't import the picture in linked format.
