Imported Image Quality between 2007 & 2010
I create images with The Logo Creator v6 that I then import into MS Word and print on an 8.5x11 "certificate" blank sheet.
Everything works fine in Word 2007 but the same image imported into Word 2010 is blurry like a very small image expanded in size. I also tried importing the image into Word 2007, saving the resulting .docx file and opening it into Word 2010 and the image was fine. I've tried both .JPG format and .PNG format and get the same results in both versions of Word. Luckily I've only updated one of my PC from Office 2007 to Office 2010 so I can still use the older version but I shouldn't have to. Both are pretty much straight-out-of-the-box installations. Why is directly importing the same image into Word 2010 a mess but fine with Word 2007? These are two screen shots of the same image imported into 2007 and 2010. Some relevant data has been whited out. |

How are you importing the image? Is Word's image compression turned on, or off?

I use Insert -> Picture. Where is Word's image compression?

Hi Dale,
Immediately after inserting a picture, or if you click on one, the 'Picture Tools' ribbon tab appears. At the left end of that is the 'adjust' panel with the 'Compress' option. Check its settings.

I don't understand why that wouldn't be the default but I guess the MS programmers had a reason. Anyway, thanks for steering me in the right direction. |

Had a play with Office 2010 and 2003. It appears as if this is an issue with the .docx file container.
Using 2010 and saving a blank document as a Word97 - 2003 .doc and then pasting an image works great. as soon as you save as a .docx then the image is altered, whatever settings you use in options. I've given up and have set the default save format as .doc. Hope that Microsoft will sort this out, a massive step backwards. |
