Caption problems
I have a multi chapter document. The Chapters are designated as Heading 1. On inserting a caption to a figure in Chapter 2, I see Figure 2.1 correctly within the Caption window. On clicking OK, the caption is headed as Figure 0.1, not 2.1 in the document
What am I doing wrong. Thanks DonH |

Hi Don,
Have you tried refreshing the caption (eg select it and press F9)?

Yes, I've selected and pressed F9 but nothing changes.

Hi Don,
Can you upload a cut-down copy of the document with the problem captions?

I've cut down on all the text but have had to leave the figures in as that is where the problem lies. The files size is still nearly 10,000kb. Incidentally, where it said Figure 1.1 etc, it now says Figure{STYLEREF 1 \s}.{ etc Another thing I noticed is that if I highlight Chapter 1 and click on Paragraph/Multilevel List it goes yellow when I click on Chapter 1 but then doesn't stay yellow but the Numbering option to its left becomes yellow. Your help is much appreciated DonH |

Hi Don,
The {STYLEREF 1 \s} just means you've toggled the field code display 'on'. Pressing Alt-F9 toggles it on/off. It's interesting that the STYLEREF field has just '1' - I'd have expected it to say {STYLEREF "Heading 1" \s}. Change it to that & update the field - that might solve the problem.

Thanks Macropod,
In Chapter 1, where I can see Figure 1.2 OK, on clicking Alt-F9 I see Figure {STYLEREF 1 \s}.{SEQ Figure\*ARABIC \s1} In Chapter 2, where I see Figure 0.1 wrongly, I see exactly the same Figure {STYLEREF 1 \s}.{SEQ Figure\*ARABIC \s1}, no mention of a "2" anywhere, nor a "0" either. Is there any way I can doctor it to send the document to you? Thanks DonH |

Did you try modifying the STYLEREF field as I suggested? Do that, press F9 to update the field then press Alt-F9 to toggle the field code display 'off'. When you're viewing the actual field codes (ie {STYLEREF 1 \s}.{SEQ Figure\*ARABIC \s1}), you can't see their results - rather like when you look at a macro, you don't see it's output, only the process it goes through to produce the output.

I tried the fix you suggested, changing Styleref 1\s to Styleref Heading 1\s and it made no difference at all. I think I'll just have to start a new document and copy and paste into it my old data and hope that I don't have the same problem again.
Thanks for trying, Macropod |
