Default TOC on footnotes

Hi Friends!

I want to create a TOC based on a certain text style **that is only used in the footnotes section**.

I went through the normal procedure telling Word which style to use for level one (it's only one level) and when I went to do the TOC I got the infamous "no entries..." notice.

Why doesn't it like me???

TIA

Susan

It likes you just fine, but footnotes are in a part of the document (a "story") that the TOC does not see.

What is it you are trying to accomplish doing this. Someone here may be able to assist you in reaching your goal another way.

Default TOC in Footnotes

Thank you for your reply!

I am writing a scholarly book and almost all the material is in the footnote sections at the bottom of the pages. Under each footnote "number" is the title of the subject matter I will be discussing in this note and I wanted to build the TOC based on those titles.
Does anyone have a neat solution?

Not really a neat solution but one you could use. Right before you add the footnote, in the document itself, insert a TC field with the information you want in the TOC. These are hidden fields. This will mean typing the information twice, once in the field and once in the footnote.

Base your TOC on the TC fields rather than on a style.
