Question Add custom document properties into document

I have generated a Custom document panel using Infopath which contains 'fields' for my own propeties. I now wish to insert these into my document in the same way that the standard WORD ones are through 'Insert-Quick Parts - Document Properties' providing a link between the Document Information Panel entries and the 'fields' in the document. How can I do this ?

Hi Nic,

You should be able to find your custom proprties via Prepare|Properties > Document Properties > Advanced properties > Custom.

Default Not quite what I was trying to achieve.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I realise I can insert those items in this way, but it is not quite what I am trying to achieve. As and example, if my specified Custom Document Information Panel (DIP) contains a data field called 'Issue' which is visible when the DIP is displayed I cannot insert this field into the body of my document as I can with the default document properties in the DIP, as in the attached image. I cannot associate the field in the DIP with that in the body of the document with the 'tag' indicating the item from the DIP.

Hi Nic,

When you creata a custom document property, that doesn't put its value into the body of the document. To do that, you insert a field pointing to the custom document property. you can do tha via Insert|Quick Parts|Field. When you select the DOCPROPERTY field option, your custom field should appear in the list. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl-F9 to create a pair of field braces (ie {}) and type 'DOCPROPERTY' followed by your property's name (eg 'Data') so that you end up with {DOCPROPERTY Data} then press F9 to update.

Hi,
Yep, I can do all that. My problem seems to be associated more with getting the data fields from my custom DIP to be accessible from within the document.

I cannot attach my Infopath form; invalid file type; so I have taken screen-shots of the relevant parts.

I have several fields which I would like to use within the document. When I attach my InfoPath Custom DIP to the document (Developer-Document Panel - Browse - Custom DIP.xsn) and display 'Custom Properties' by default, my DIP is displayed with all my empty data fields. However none of these are accessible to insert into my document via the Insert - Quick Parts - Document Property path (ideally) nor the Insert - Quick Parts - Field - DocProperty route as you suggest.

How can I get my data fields in my custom DIP into the body of my document ?

Hi Nic,

That suggests your InfoPath Custom DIP isn't actually writing anything to the document's custom document properties - perhaps these data are only being stored in InfoPath (not an app I've worked with). If you code the InfoPath Custom DIP to add the custom document properties to the document and update them, all should be well.

Hi Paul,
Yes I think that is essentially my problem. I have read several Microsoft articles on using InfoPath to generate a custom DIP with user fields which can then be used in a WORD document, but none of them then tell me how to get these fields into the body of the document.
I suppose I'll have to move this question to the InfoPath forum !

Hi Nic,

See if the following is of use:

As I said in my previous post, InfoPath is not an app I've worked with, so I can't provide any direct assistance.
