Formatting from PDF to WORD
I am trying to format a children's book to post it on Kindle. For the contents of the book, Kindle requires the format to be a WORD DOC file. It is in PDF form at present. Is there any way that I can format this to DOC?? There are colored illustrations on every page. Thanks.

Hi goldfish,
So what's become of the document? Converting a PDF back to Word isn't guaranteed to be an exact representation of the original.

I haven't tried to convert the content yet. I'm told that graphics don't translate well from PDF to DOC. Has anyone tried the converter sold by SmartSoft??

Hi goldfish,
I'll ask again: what's become of the document?

Hi Macropod:
This is the first time I've used this forum - so I'm not totally familiar with how you do things. I did reply - but I guess my post went onto the forum board and not back to you. Anyway, I have not attempted to transfer anything to Kindle yet. I have my back and front cover in JPEG which is what they require. But the contents of my book is still in PDF and they require DOC. Since there are colored illustrations on every page, it's important to get a good translation to DOC. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Goldfish |

Hi goldfish,
If you only have the story in PDF format, that implies the copyright (hence intellectual property) belongs to someone else. Unless you have the legal rights to make the conversion, helping you to do so would be unethical.

Macropod:
Thanks for your concern. However, I am the author and the publisher (thru Lulu.com) and, of course, I have the legal right to do anything I want to with my own intellectual property. This book, The Little Red Sports Car, has been listed on Amazon.com and other sites for years and is selling well in paperback format. Goldfish |

Hi goldfish,
Don't you still have the original document, then? I ask because PDF-to-Word conversion often doesn't produce an editable 100% faithful replication of the original. If you don't still have the original document, you might get better results doing a straight PDF-to-Kindle conversion, using tools such as those available here: http://www.pdftokindle.com/ (currently available as a free download, but normally only US$39.95).

Great! This might be the answer I've been looking for. I'll try it. Thanks, Goldfish |
