Hide paragraph format marks
I am using Word 2003, Windows 7. Experience: self taught; low intermediate level of knowledge.
I clicked the Paragraph sign and all the Paragraph signs and the "." for each space appeared. Now I can't hide them. Clicking the "P" sign again does nothing, neither does right clicking. When I go into format and click reveal formatting, a column appears on the right side of screen (which tells me nothing about removing format.) Clicking help - reveal formatting - tips - tells me to click arrow in selected text box and then click "clear formatting". But, "clear formatting" option does not appear. To add to my frustration, formatting marks are now in ALL my word documents. Suggestions, please. Thanks. Cara |

Hi Cara,
The pilcrow (¶) on the toolbar is for toggling the formatting mark display on/off. The underlying settings for what that toggling affects are whatever you've checked under Tools|Options|View > Formatting marks. If you uncheck, say, spaces, tabs & optional hyphens, clicking on the pilcrow will toggle the display of these attributes on/off.

Thanks so much. Worked perfectly! I wonder why that info is not under HELP? (It probably is somewhere, but not easy to find.)
