Default Issue with Word duplicating

For some reason, I'm woking in a Word [.doc] document and when I try to highlight a word or words, it has duplicated the same words further down the document.... also has copied complete paragraphs.... I've been using Word [2000] for about 8 years, so I know that I'm not doing something totally stupid.......
Is there something that has been activated that keeps duplicating text????

I'm ready to pitch this piece of sh*t and reinstall Office 2000 .....I've already pitched Win7 and installed XP Pro.......

Please email me for any comment.....Thank you

Hi cajun,

What you're describing could be a display issue - related to the fact you're running XP on a system designed for Win 7 and the XP drivers might not be fully compatible with the latest hardware.

Or it could be because the range you're updating is bookmarked and the 'duplicate' range has a cross-reference to that bookmark. Word 2000 would behave exactly the same way in this regard (I know, I run both Office 2000 and 2007 side-by-side on the same PC).

Without seeing the document, it's hard to know for sure.

No, this just started yesterday.... could be because I experienced another invasion of 'System Tools' virus..... don't know, but it drove me crazy for about 1 hour... I was on the verge of uninstalling Office 2010 and doing a new install... with all the bells & whistles of 2010, it seems to be a very unstable software.... those geeks at Microsoft just sit around and think of cr*p to justify not getting laid off....

Does this mean the problem's gone away?

Yes; it seems that the original document was saved as ".doc" and in order to close it out and save it [salvage the remainder of the document], I had to save it under a different name.. after doing so, I saw that both documents were saved as ".docx".....
Since I'm new at this 2010 version, I'm presently leaving it as is. When I've completed it, I'll save it in the two versions.... however, I think that once I removed the virus, Word will return to normal operation... [I hope]
