How to give line numbering to only selected text?
Hello,
I am trying to make a document which is a combination of multiple documents. But, I need to give line numbering to all sections starting from 1 (individually) For Example: I have Task 1 with 1-90 lines and Task 2 with 95 lines. Task 1 will have numbers 1-90 and Task 2 will have 1-95 in a same document. Is it possible? I used apply for selected text in line numbering section but couldn't get the desired result. Any Idea? |

Hi, garlapati
Yes, this is possible. You can try the following: Highlight the first group of lines you want to number, say from 1-90. Select "Format" and "Bullets and Numbering." Go to the "Numbered" tab in the "Bullets and Numbering" dialog box, select a numbering style and click "OK." Highlight the next group of lines that will be numbered differently, say from 1-95 in the same document. Reopen the "Bullets and Numbering" dialog box. Then click the "Restart numbering" option and press "OK." You can repeat this process as often as necessary. Hope this helps! |

Thanks but!!!!!
Hello Allyson,
Thanks for your reply but my requirement is different from what you are trying to say. Please check the sample page I am attaching to this post. My requirement is like 1st page...but when I do the actions you say the result is second page. |

Looks like the numbering is being applied to entire paragraphs instead of separate lines. You can fix that by pressing the "Enter" key after each line you want to number. For example, in the sample you sent me, you can format it as follows: 1. Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text [Press Enter] 2. Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text Sample text [Press Enter, etc.] Word will format it properly for you from there. This should hopefully fix the problem. |

Yeah, its a solution but I have 600 pages to do like that. So, its not possible in manual way there should be some automated way.

Oh, no... Well, that's not good. Is it possible to do a find and replace? Maybe if the lines you want to number all end with a period and space, you can add a manual line break after each period and space?
For example, under the Find text field, add a period and space (. ) and under the Replace text field, add a period, space and manual line break (. ^l) Or maybe find other similarities between lines that you can use for the find and replace? You can hit "Replace" do replace the lines individually or "Replace All" if you don't necessarily want to check each and every replacement. |
