Hi dee3489,
I still don't know what you mean by a 'snap' function - I've used Word for well over a decade and have never encountered a feature so described. The only other thing I can think of that might affect the side-by-side display in Word 2007 is checking/unchecking the 'Show all windows in the taskbar' option under Word Options|Advanced > Display.

I believe the questioner is referring to Windows 2007's snap feature, though why it would not work with Word eludes me.
