Default Word - Links point to template rather than new document

Hi all,

First time poster here. Hopefully somebody can help me.

I have created a word template which has a cover page specifying the Document Title and Revision Number. These fields are also included in the headers/footers and are linked to what is typed on the cover page. The idea being that the header/footers update automatically.

While this works fine when the actual template is open I'm having a problem when a new document is created based on the template. When this is done the source for the links in the new document is actually the original template file, rather than the new document itself.

Anybody know if there is a way around this without physically going in and changing the source for each link in the new document?

Hi mconigol,

What kind of fields and links are you using? From what you've descibed, all you need is a pair of unique Styles on the cover page for the Document Title and Revision Number, and STYLEREF fields in the headers/footers to replicate that information.
