Hi MommyO,
What you're describing suggests either a corrupt template or an add-in of some kind (eg a macro) that's executing a find for the '1234' in the 'whateverstyle' - rather like someone was playing around and saved this as an auto macro in the template concerned. Do you know what template that might be? If it happens as soon as you start Word, or whenever you create a new document based on the default template, it'll probably be the 'Normal.dot' template.
