Default Find/Replace problems

I've noticed in the last month or so whenever I try to use the "find" or "find and replace" function in word at the office, I'm having trouble.

Specifically if I'm in a document that was created from a template, it appears that the "Find" function is trying to search only in a specific style format.

In the find box this is what I see:

Find What: 1234
Options: SearchUp
Format: Style: whateverstyle

I've never seen this before. I've tried "match case" etc but none of the options help.

I really feel like it is searching for words in only a specific style setting...but I have no idea why or how to change this.

We've got Word 2003.
