Default MS Word 2003 Index problem

hi all, I'm working on an older version of a Speechworks/Nuance VUI design document. Sometimes, after emailing it out, the index / table of contents page numbers turn into all 2's. I can fix it by selecting all and then F9 updating the entire document. This is not acceptable to my customer, and they want it fixed. Is this a known issue in MS Word 2003? I am using Windows XP. IS there possibly a fix?

many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi Morgan,

Does the document do the same thing if you detach the sent copy from your email and open it on your PC? If not, the problem is probably due to an issue at the user's end (eg their copy of Word isn't fully updated). See: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/PageXofY.htm

A temp repair could be done in the form of inserting an AutoOpen macro that refreshes the document when opened. This will work it out until the problem is fully determined/fixed.

Hi Brock,

Requiring the user to run a macro (including allowing an auto macro to run) is not a good workaround IMHO, even on a temporary basis. Far better to solve the problem at its root, which shouldn't take very long.

I don't see this problem when I run it from my personal laptop, even opening it from ATT Mail. My office PC is the same version of word, also xp, and its intermittent with my boss, who is also running xp, and the same version of word. The customer, has just told me that they are now upgraded to MS Office 2010. SO I don't know what that will yield now. Thank you all again. I"m checking my updates, currently.

I generally save it to my hard drive first, then open it, except when using my att mail account, its reversed.

looks like my office is already perfectly updated, on both my systems.

Hi Morgan,

The issue isn't really one of whether your system is fully updated (though that's probably a good thing), since you don't have a problem with the page numbering, but whether the client's system is fully updated.
