Default How to retain italics when pasting from PDF?

Does anyone know if there's a way to preserve italics when pasting from PDFs? In Word Options>Advanced>Cut, copy, and paste I have the last three options set to "Keep Source Formatting" but Word doesn't retain italicized words for some reason. The Paste Special option only shows two options, "Unformatted Text" and "Unformatted Unicode Text."

Thanks.
