Default Help with Chapter Headings!!

Hello,

I have noticed a problem with my chapter headings (Heading 1) in MS 2010. About half way through my document, the automated spacing between "Chapter #" and (the title) change.

For example:
Chapter 5..My Early Chapter
Chapter 10.........A Later Chapter

Everything stays lit up the same on the Home tab and I don't know where to look correct the change. Every chapter I create after "Chapter 9" has the spacing automatically changed. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have attached a photo:

Between the chapter number and the chapter text, there is a tab character. The text "Chapter 10" is longer than "Chapter 9". This one additional character is pushing the phrase past the original tab stop so it going to the next one.

Modify the style to set a tab stop. It is difficult for me to see in the graphic, and I suspect your ruler isn't showing inches like mine does, but try setting the tab stop at about 3.5.

The Tab stops halted the problem thanks!

Some combination of playing with style settings/customizations must have caused a glitch. The same thing happened after "chapter 9" on a few new (test) Word documents. However on a new Word document when I changed the Style Set and re-added chapter numbering to it, the issue was gone...

Thanks,
Bryan
