Cross-reference feature problems in Word 2010

I have some documents with captioned images. Text in the document uses the cross-reference feature to refer to the captions, the page number, and uses the above/below option. The original documents were created in Word XP, then editied in Word 2007. The problem arises when editing in Word 2010.



I find that after editing in word 2010, if I apply the above/below feature to the page number option, the page number always shows a 0 (zero). If I remove the above/below option the page number comes out OK.

If I create a document from scratch all seems to work as expected, but deleting references in the old documents, and then renewing them does not seem to fix the problem. (I have not tried deleting all the captions and references and starting again - that would be a major exercise.)

Anyone out there noticed this problem, and better still, have any of you got a solution/workaround?
