Default Word page numbers and footers.

Hi all, new guy here

Im at the moment making a template, that i will use for all my future documents. But i have a little trouble with two things so far.

Page numbers. The page numbers keep giving the cover page number 1. But this page should not have a number. Also the next page of the document (the reference page) should also not have a page number. And the page number should first start on page 3 with the number 1. But how do i do this?

Also my footer. In my footer i have a logo that will be needed to be the same on all pages. On windows it was, if you added a logo/picture to one footer. It would be copied to all footers on all other pages. Why is this not so on mac? and how do i do so it does this = ?

Hope you understand my "problem".

Thanks on advance.
Kind regards.

Hi drenriza,

To do this, you need to use a 'Next page' Section break to separate the document's 'front matter' from it's body. After inserting the 'Next page' Section break, go to the page it creates and access the page footer. Unlink the footer from the previous Section, then insert the page number field. If you want, you can format the page numbering to start from 1 in the new Section, rather than counting the pages from the previous Section. The tools for these steps all become visible once you enter the header/footer area.

I cannot see this work.

Page 1 (front page) has a section break (next page)
page 2 (reference page) has a section break (next page)
page 3 (which should be get page number 1) gets page number 1

Now also page 1 (front page) gets page 1
and page 2 (reference page) gets page 2

This is even that i made the front page a special page, and clicked in format pagenumbers (show number on first page) off.

Hi drenriza,

The process I outlined didn't require two Section breaks, but no matter. What you should have done before inserting the page number field is to unlink your last Section's footer from the previous Sections. You've apparently done these steps the other way around.

You should be able to fix the problem by opening the footer on your document's first page and deleting the page number field from there.

Hi Macropod.

Im very sucky to word, and so far thanks for your guidance.

I believe i got it now.
The cover page has a section break (next page)
and the reference page has a normal page break.

Now the third page the page number 1, gets that and the fourth page gets number 2. Is this correct?

Hi drenriza,

If that's what you were after, then yes, it's correct. I'd probably have chosen to have the 'Next page' Section break after the reference page. For you to be getting the numbering to start from 1 with your configuration, I'd guess your document's page layout is configured with the 'different first page' setting (at least for the 2nd Section).
