Default Find & Replace words with "/" prefix & suffix

Hi all, 1st time poster!

Sorry about the cryptic title.

I've been sent a document that I wish to reformat; the document has no itallics, rather the author has used / before & after word to designate use of itallics. This bothers me & I want to change the words back to proper itallics.

I started to do a manual find (Ctrl+F) for / and then changed the word to itallics and deleted both /'s. But this is a long document (approx 300 pages) and I'm still only on page 10 after ages!

Is there anyway to seach for a wildcard with / before & after and then automatically delete / whilst itallicising the word?

I'm guessing not as it seems a bit complicated, but I'm posting just in case anyone has any shortcuts/ideas!

Thanks

Hi tollanarama,

You can use the following wildcard Find/Replace:
Find = \/<(*)>\/
Replace = \1
and format the replacement font as italics.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong!

I typed \/<(*)>\/ into find box, but Word says it cannot find any matches?!

I forgot to mention I'm using Word 2003.
