Default Weird ÿ character replaces text

hi all,

I've copied a table from a word 2007 file to a word 2003 file.
Now almost all my text is replaced by the ÿ-character.
also, when i open the file in word 2007 it creates thousands of pages.

is this a known problem?

please help

greetings

Hi robinvda,

That suggests you document has been corrupted somehow. Perhaps the safest course is to restore a known good backup copy and re-do whatever work you've done since making that backup.

Hi robinvda,

If the file is still in the Word 97-2003 format, you could try opeining it with Notepad or WordPad to see what text content is recoverable. Alternatively, you could use Word 2007's 'Open and Repair' option (via File|Open) or Word 2003's 'Recover Text from any file' tool, for which the process is:
• Goto Tools|Options|Generaland check the 'Confirm conversion at Open' option
• Click Open|Files of type>Recover Text from Any File.
If you don't see 'Recover Text from Any File' option in the 'Files of type' box, you need to install the file converter.
