Default manipulating cross-reference fields

Hello,

I'm trying to cross reference the sub-paragraph number in a header as a number. My whole paragraph 4 (Heading 1) is dedicated to describe several tests. I use Heading 2 for each test, such as 4.22 and 4.23 in the example below.. Now I want to use the number "22" in the text that follows. So if I add another paragraph, then after update the test numbers remain the same as the sub-paragraph numbers.

Example:

4.22 TEST 22 DO SOME THINGS

Test 22 is about some things

4.23 TEST 23 SOME MORE THINGS

Test 23 is about more things

The numbers 22 and 23 are actually fields like:
{ ={ REF _REF278889589 \R }*100-400 }

I used <CTRL>+F9 to start a field. Then I use insert -> Reference -> Cross-reference to insert the paragraph number ("4.22", "4.23" in above example), and added manually the formula. 4.22 * 100 - 400 = 22.

THIS WORKS ON MY COMPUTER! However:

Q1: Is there another way to accomplish the same? I have used field formatting \# .###, but that returns .22 and .23 so with the decimal dot in front of the number.

Q2: This "trick"works on my computer, but two colleagues get SYNTAX ERRORS. We're using the same (company wide installed) MS-WORD version (2002, SP3). What have I done on my computer to alow this to work??? Some option?
