When I have to use the comments in Word, they get chopped off. How can I stop this? Is there a specific number of words I can use in a sentence?

Comments can have 5000+ words, if you click in the comment pane, you should be able to scroll up/down to read the whole comment.

Thank you Macropod.
Scrolling down only shows other comments beneath. All the comments my tutor and I have used in Word are less than 50 words. Many of my tutor's comments were chopped off. When I click on them, half the message is still missing. I can only assume she forgot to write the whole message. I have conversed with her a number of times and she has no answer for our problem. I'm trying to get her to place all comments in the body of the manuscripts for the time being. Comments at the side would be better if they didn't get chopped off. Have you got any other ideas to fix this problem please? Metta |

What you're describing is abnormal. Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Word may not be able to show the full comment text if there are many comments on the same page. However, if you click inside a comment, it should display in full.
One thing you can try, if this is indeed a display issue, is to increase the "Preferred width" for balloons in the Advanced Track Changes Options dialog box. See the screen shot below. In my example, I have specified 9.4 cm (about 3.7") but you can of course set it even larger. Some trial and error may be required.

Thank you Macropod and Stefan for the tips about word total in comments and widening the section where comments are. Unfortunately, I can't send a snap shot of this problem, or any other, because the print screen button won't function. I used to be able to use it when I had Windows 10, but since getting Windows 11, I've had endless problems.

Thanks for the follow-up. Are you able to share a representative sample document (remove any sensitive information from the doc)?

Hi Stefan
In reply to your question, I don't know any way of sharing a picture of the problem because my print screen button won't work in Windows 11. It always has in other versions of Windows. I can't revert to windows 10 because it is obsolete in the country I now live in. Metta |
