I opened a client's Word document today and saw a banner showing:

Use the Document Inspector under File > Info.
|

To add to what Charles has said, you will have to run the Document Inspector and when you see its report, choose to remove personal information. When the process is complete, save the changes. The next time you open the document, personal info will be gone.
